24 Season 4 prequel(No spoilers please)?

I haven't watched season 3 yet, but I noticed that before season 4 starts there is a prequel heading into that season. Is it a recap or is it essential to watch. I really would like to know whether or not to skip the prequel when I eventually get to season 4.
